PulseReligious

What happens when a secretive cult seeking the answer to immortal life finds a god who shares their beliefs? You get the Pale Lantern Society. The Society is perhaps the oldest active organization on Færrin, predating even the Gods and the Iridescent Church. In the Dark Ages, they were a cabal of warlords and aristocrats who dabbled in necromancy and memetics. Even in those lawless days, the Society acted clandestinely, as many reacted adversely to raising the dead.

That all changed when the firmament cracked. All heard the Pulse's voice, and she declared that the Society would be her presence in the world. Thrust from the shadows into the light, the Society quickly gained prestige and renown from their endorsement by an Outer God. Their ranks swelled with would-be necromancers and healers, as it turns out very little separates the two in practice.

Nowadays, the Society operates hospitals, research centers, and graveyards across the continent. Perhaps most famous, however, are their Columbariums. Wealthy patrons donate their bodies upon death to a Columbarium, where an artist preserves and arranges their corpses into works of art. Their bodies are displayed for the public to admire while they await the Society's perfection of the necromantic arts. Once true resurrection is possible, they'll be returned to their mortal coil.
